It was night time, I just got out from a tiring day at work, the South China Sea was blowing its salty wind on my face, there was plenty of seafood on the table and the smell of Monte Cristo cigar was creating a sultry blend with the surrounding. It was relaxing…

That night we met my boss’s friend from Lebanon who just moved to Johor, Basil. He started talking about his previous working experiences and in our conversation, he brought up a topic which conveniently hit a note at that moment.

He asked me,in life, if given the choice of winning the battle and winning the war, which would you choose?

Basil told us the story about one of his boss who made his life hell at work. They would argue and being someone who is passionate about his beliefs, he fought to win every argument had. They sorta developed mutual hatred towards each other since.

It was only after a few years after that Basil realized what a huge mistake it was. He missed out on the knowledge and the mentor-ship of a very intelligent man who could have nurtured his mind in so many ways.

I learned a couple of things from Basil that night;

To win the war, we have to lose a few battles. To win the war, we have to put our emotions at bay and make best friends with our logic.
To win the war, we have to see every moment; bad or good, an opportunity.

some truth in life we just gotta accept…
